GIC Computing for the Community Fellowship Award

Empowering undergraduate students in the NUS School of Computing to boost technology capabilities of voluntary welfare organisations through innovative IT solutions.

    Impact on the community

Since 2016, more than 40 musicians with disabilities have participated in the Training Award Programme. Public outreach performances will start in 2025.

    How it works

The Training Award Programme provides musicians with disabilities from disadvantaged backgrounds with equal access to music lessons and performing opportunities. By supporting their development in music, GIC helps these musicians nurture their talent and gain confidence. GIC also supports public outreach performances by The Purple Symphony. These events aim to raise awareness of the capabilities and contributions of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the community, promoting inclusion and empowerment.

"With GIC’s continued support, aspiring musicians with disabilities will be able to pursue their musical dreams, gaining equal access to learning and performance opportunities. My deepest appreciation to GIC for contributing to the national aspiration of building a more inclusive and vibrant society for all in Singapore."

    Denise Phua

Mayor, Central Singapore District Adviser, The Purple Symphony

“The knowledge I’ve gained from music being taught by professionals gives me the confidence to perform in public! On top of that, the annual concerts I participate in further strengthens my confidence to perform in front of crowds.”

Spotlight: The Purple Symphony performs soundtrack for GIC’s first animated film

In 2023, The Purple Symphony was invited to record a track for GIC’s first animated film, “Bold Sees the Bigger Picture.” The track was specially composed for and performed by musicians with and without disabilities from The Purple Symphony. The musicians had to adapt to new challenges that came with performing in a professional recording studio. Watch the behind-the-scenes video of the recording of the soundtrack below.
